Hydro power systems use the power of running water to create electricity. Whether it is from a small stream or large river, there is energy due to the downhill flow of water. Tidal rivers and estuaries can also be used for hydro systems.
Rivers are running all the time, so a hydro energy system can generate and provide cheap energy for you 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Hydro systems vary in the size and the power produced – these can cater for individual properties, through to multiple dwellings, and in some cases, towns and cities.
Hydro power is created using a turbine to produce electricity. Kinetic energy from the flow of water is converted inside the turbine to drive a generator, which then produces electricity.
Ideally suited for properties situated near rivers, hydro systems can work well as part of an integrated energy solution for commercial and domestic users.
